TRENTON, Neb. — Girls proved even tougher than boys when it came to deciding the Maywood-Hayes Center Invite champions on Wednesday.

While four points separated top boys teams, Hitchock County’s girls triumphed by only two, 103-101, over top challenger Maywood-Hayes Center.

The Falcons prevailed thanks to a flurry of high places whether it was sprints, distance, hurdles or field competition.

Junior Kyleigh Scott won their only two actually event titles. She soared six inches higher than Medicine Valley’s RaeAnn Heapy for a pole vault victory.

Scott’s other triumph was a terrific 100-meter dash where she broke the tape in 13.4 ahead of Wallace’s Lexi DeCent (13.6) and Jaycee Widener (13.7) from Maywood-Hayes Center.

The Wolves won two relays to help them outscore 10 teams in this outdoor season opener.

Individually, Wauneta-Palisade senior Faith Simpson earned three championships including a nearly 40-foot shot put triumph.
