Lady Indians sweep 'Pink Out' doubleheader

McCOOK, Neb. -- The McCook Community College Lady Indian softball team downed North Platte Thursday in the annual ‘Purple-Out’ doubleheader. MCC won the first game 8-0 and the second game 19-5. Both teams wore purple to support epilepsy research and awareness.

Game 1

In the first game, MCC got a second-inning homerun from Emily Charchuk (Victoria, B.C) and a fourth-inning from Jerusha Miner (Gunnison Valley, Utah) to back the two-hit pitching of Taya Thorpe (Malad, Idaho).

The Lady Indians came out with four runs in the first inning with Taylor Ford (McCook) delivering the big hit, a three-run double. Charchuk hit a solo home run in the second and the Lady Indians made it 6-0 on back-to-back doubles off the bats of Alexis Moeaki (Las Vegas) and Isabel Serna (Las Vegas.)

Miner delivered her two-run homer in the fourth to make it an 8-0 game.

Thorpe (9-9) held the Lady Knights to a pair of singles in five innings of work. She walked three and struck out six.

Game 2

The Lady Indians started off the bottom of the first with three straight hits and kept the offense flowing with three runs in the first, five in the second, eight in the third and three in the fourth.

The Lady Indians got a third-inning home run off the bat of Kathy MacDiarmond (Spring Creek, Nevada) and a fourth-inning home run from Chanel Siebenthal (Lakewood, Colo.) with MCC pounding out 16 hits. Moeaki had a pair of doubles, a single and three RBIs; Siebenthal was three-for-three with a double, homerun, stolen base and four RBIs. The Lady Indians also got two-hit games from Charchuk, MacDiramond, and Sieara Price (Greeley, Colo.).

Thorpe (10-9) pitched a scoreless first inning and gave way to Rebecca Carpenter (Parksville, British Columbia) who pitched two scoreless innings. Kayla Harrison (Richmond, B.C.) pitched a scoreless fourth inning before the Knights reached the scoreboard for four unearned runs in the fifth inning.

MCC improves to 13-9 on the season. North Platte is 2-16.

Upcoming

On Saturday, MCC hosts Trinidad State at noon and 2 p.m. at the Jaycees Sports Complex.

On Monday the Lady Indians travel to Goodland, Kan. to play Northwest Kansas Tech at 1 p.m. MDT and against Colorado Northwestern Community College at 3 p.m. MDT.
