Quakers stun KU? Never know with Madness

Wednesday, March 14, 2018

Time to bounce around a few March Madness exactly how Gazette scribbler R.B. (Rabid Bonnies Fan?) Headley fills out his first tournament bracket:

Five minutes or less, baby!

“My only perfect Final Four was a Sunday night in 2001: Duke, Maryland, Michigan State and Arizona with Duke winning it all,” Tar Heel fan R.B. revealed. “I barely even thought about each pick which got me through five years of higher learning at University of Nebraska-Kearney. My warp drive is on again and I make these picks with pizza-eating quickness.”

Does a 16 finally beat a top seed?

Penn Quakers over Kansas? That seems most likely: never count out the Ivy League plus Kansas depends on outside shooting and lacks inside defense — especially since power fowrad Udoka Azabuike may only play in “an emergency” according to coach Bill Self.

This would qualify.

Penn has a 7’3” freshman who never plays, but also some 6’8” forwards who score and good guard play. Perfect formual for history to be made. With that being written, Kansas likely wins by 40.

Real best upsets? 1. Loyola of Chicago Ramblers roll behind five double-figure scorers over far too-high-seeded Miami Hurricanes.

Other contenders have to be the Marshall Thundering Herd over Wichita, those South Dakota State Jackrabbits over Ohio State, Bonnies over Florida, Davidson catching Kentucky off guard and my personal favorite: No. 13 Charleston over floundering No. 4 Auburn.

Survivors?

I have Loyola joining Arizona, Cincinnati and Tennesseee in the South.

Xavier, Gonzaga, Michigan and North Carolina represent the West.

Villanova, Purdue, West Virginia and Texas Tech from the East.

Kansas, Clemson, Michigan State and Duke make up a powerful East.

The final Four?

Michigan State tops Kansas, Arizona over Cincinnati, Villanova outlasts Purdue and Gonzaga gets revenge on Carolina. National champion: Michigan State. I made this pick before Vitale and Jay Bilas.
