Broncos blast Wildcats, one win from state
OGALLALA, Neb. — Wauneta-Palisade’s hitting on all cylinders at the perfect time as they blasted Wallace, 74-44, in Thursday’s D2-9 subdistrict title game.
The Broncos (15-8 record) featured four double-figure scorers while showing no evidence of last month’s 53-50 RPAC tourney loss to these same Wildcats.
So much for 12-8 Wallace’s seven-game win streak entering Thursday.
W-P swished four three-pointers before the first period was finished Thursday night.
Dunncan Rector, Dennis Cavanaugh, Ben Anderjaska and Dalton Harchelroad all conected to help build a 21-10 lead after eight minutes.
The Broncos were only getting warmed up, blasting in front 38-17 by halftime. Austin Rozelle made three baskets with Harchelroad hitting another triple.
Coach Dave Kuhlen’s team never let up with 18 points during both the third and fourth periods.
Rector buried another pair of threes and nine points total to cap that final quarter.
The Broncos now need just one more win for a repeat Class D-2 state tourney appearance.
However, they must get through the defending champion Mullen Broncos in Tuesday’s district title game at Hershey.
Watch for more details on opening tip time.
