Trojans wrestling in state duals

KEARNEY, Neb. — The Cambridge Trojans are making history this weekend as they’ve qualified for their Nebraska State Wrestling Duals Tournament.

Cambridge enters Class D as the No. 7 seed and will take on No. 2 Mullen Saturday morning (10:30 a.m).

Senior district champions Matthew Pearson (182 pounds), Seth Andrews (220) and Tyler Schultz (285) all topped 40 wins in their final Trojan seasons while earning state medals at Omaha last weekend.

They’ll lead an 11-wrestler Trojan lineup:

106 pounds — freshman Shane Howart (30-17 record);

120 — Sophomore John Tenbensel (29-10);

126 — State qualifying junior Zack Miller-Sickels (30-14) and freshman Clay Sayer (24-21).

138 — Sophomore Josh Paisley (23-21);

152 — Junior Kaden Benson (28-20);

160 — Freshman Bobby Evans (24-25);

182 — Pearson (42-7) and freshman Keegan Benson (23-20);

220 — Andrews (43-7);

285 — Schultz (40-12).

The state duals are wrestled in tournament team format with semifinals and finals following on Saturday. There are consolation semis and finals for all teams to be guranteed at least two duals.

Cambridge would wrestle next against No. 3 Elkhorn Valley or No. 6 Amherst. Burwell enters at No. 1.
