OBERLIN, Kan. — Gary Lee Miller, 83, died Sunday (Feb. 18, 2018), at Good Samaritan Society in Oberlin.

He was born Oct. 18, 1934, in Norton, Kan., to Weldon and Esther (Hix) Miller. He graduated from Norcatur High School in 1952. He attended an electronic school in Denver, Colo.

He married Mary Jane Thornton in Norcatur, Kan., on April 1, 1956. He worked as a radio and television repairman before working at the post office in Norcatur. He served as postmaster for 14 years before being transferred to Oberlin in 1979.

Gary was united in marriage to Annette (Cordel) Garman on Dec. 26, 1983, at the Oberlin United Methodist Church. He retired as Oberlin’s postmaster in 1990, and he and his wife lived in Oberlin until 1992. They moved to St. Francis, Kan and returned to Oberlin in 2001.

He was a member of the Democratic Party and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Survivors include his wife, Annette of Oberlin; children, Kathy Moyer of Monterey, Calif., Stan Miller and wife, Carol of Norcatur and Beverly Delano and husband, Rocky of Wichita; step-children, Colleen Ruppe of Castle Rock, Colo., and Pam Garman of Wichita; brother, Michael Miller and wife, Jan; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; daughter, Barbara Miller; brother, Richard Miller; and grandson, Joel Miller.

Graveside services were today, Feb. 23, 2018, at the Norcatur Cemetery with the Rev. Gordon Pettibone officiating.
