ARAPAHOE, Neb. — Maxine (Pickett) Hemelstrand, 96, of Arapahoe, died Monday (Feb. 19, 2018), at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.

She was born Oct. 15, 1921, north of Edison, Neb., in Gosper County to Russell and Gertrude (Wilson) Pickett. She attended rural school in Gosper County and Edison High School. She married Glen Hemelstrand on Sept. 20, 1940, at Norton, Kan. They owned and operated a hardware store in Arapahoe for many years. She retired in 1998 due to health problems and lived at Prairie Pines in Arapahoe and later at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe, Arapahoe Chamber of Commerce, Ella Missing Foundation Board and the Arapahoe Area Foundation.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Harry Pickett; husband, Glen, in 1980; infant brother, Gerald; brothers, Harold and wife, Rosella and Cecil and wife, Violet Pickett; and father and mother-in-law, Ivan and Linda Hemelstrand.

Survivors include her daughter, Glenda and husband, Dale Schutz of Edison, Neb.; brother, Darryl and wife, Jeanenne Pickett of Hereford, Ariz.; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

There is no visitation. Services are Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, 2 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. James Moshier officiating. Interment will be at Arapahoe Cemetery.
