State swimming all set with eight Bison
LINCOLN, Neb. — The only Nebraska high school state championship meet with no class divisions will begin Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in Lincoln’s Bob Devaney Sports Center.
There are five McCook Bison girls and three boys who’ve qualified to compete. A rundown of start times for all events that include McCook.
Thursday
Boys’ diving, 2 p.m.: Juniors Syd Wier, Spencer Reiners and sophomore Erik Graff. Wier’s seeded 13th among 31 qualifiers with his score of 340.45.
Friday prelims
Girls begin at 9 a.m.
200-medley relay: McCook juniors Becca Tietz, Mollie Tate, senior Shayne Coleman and junior Laurel Schmidt are seeded 21st with a time of 1:58.96.
50-freestyle: Senior Shayne Coleman’s seeded ninth among 32 qualifiers with her time of 25.16. She’s only five-100ths of a second from cracking the top five.
200-freestyle relay: McCook’s Schmidt, sophomore Candace Coleman, Tate and Shayne Coleman are 18th among 30 teams with a time of 1:44.96.
100-breaststroke: McCook junior Mollie Tate has qualified and brings a time of 1:13.09.
400-relay: McCook’s Schmidt, Tate, Tietz and Shayne Coleman bring a time of 3:59.55 which is seeded 24th.
No McCook boys qualified swimming events. Girls’ state alternates are sophomore Elizabeth Barenberg and freshman Kerrigan Burns.
Saturday
State championship finals are set to begin at 11 a.m. following 9:30 a.m. warm-ups. More details appear Wednesday.
