McCook Community College Vice President Andy Long, right, accepts a BaoFeng high power UHF/VHF radio from McCook Police Chief Ike Brown Tuesday morning. Brown said the police department used public relations/education funds to purchase the radios for MCC, McCook Public Schools and St. Patrick’s Catholic School. A radio available in each school building office will allow a school official to contact the police dispatch center directly in an emergency situation in which everyone has to evacuate the school building. Brown said the radios are an example of the police department’s working relationship with the schools and its effort to enhance communications.
