Bison set to battle Skyhawk, Ram, Warrior at state
LINCOLN, Neb. — McCook Bison will battle wrestlers from some of Class B’s other most prestigious schools when the state tournament starts Thursday morning.
Junior Alec Langan (15-13) leads off the Bison trio as he takes on Omaha Skutt sophomore Caleb Lazure (27-6) in a 113-pound match.
Almost any Nebraska wrestling fan knows Skutt has dominated Class B wrestling through the years, though Hastings has taken over this year’s No. 1 team spot with several others perhaps ahead of those Skyhawks.
However, no one topped Lazure during his district championship surge last weekend. He’ll present a great challenge for first-time qualifier Felber, who’s not taking any light goals into state.
“My goal would be to reach the medal round on Saturday,” he said during Monday’s Bison practice.
More remarks from McCook qualifiers will be featured in Thursday’s Gazette.
Freshman Alec Langan next steps on the Class B mats Thursday in a 182-pound match against sophomore Kole Bordovsky from Wahoo.
Most expect this to be a close matchup since both Langan (28-13) and the Warrior Bordovsky (28-15) earned 28 wins this season.
Langan did push into the B-4 finals round while Bordovsky earned a consolation title at his district.
Senior Kaleb Taylor (16-1) completes the Bison first round which is set to begin with Class B at 9 a.m.
Taylor (16-1 record) will open against 220-pound foe Jared Gasper (25-6) of the Ralston Rams.
Most like Taylor’s experience as he pinned his way into the Class B finals last season and medaled two years ago.
Again, more about the Bison state wrestlers will appear on Thursday.
