Indians conquer 'foul' Kansas contest

GOODLAND, Kan. – In a game which featured 63 fouls and 92 free-throw attempts, the McCook Community College men outlasted Northwest Kansas Tech Wednesday, 91-86.

The Indians went to the line 35 times and made 27 for a 77.1 percent night -- which helped offset the Mavericks going to the line 57 times and making 41 (71.9 percent).

Three MCC players and two NWKT players fouled out of the game.

Toni Kumanovic (Zagreb, Crotia) had a team-high 14 points for the Indians which included making seven of his eight free-throw attempts.

D’Von Moore (Statesboro, Ga.) and Chinedu Okwonkwo, Nigeria) each had 12 points. Moore went six-for-eight from the line, Okwonkwo four of six.

Peanut Cunningham (Louisville, Ken) added 11 points. Andy White (Wareham, Mass.) went six-for-six from the line and had eight points. Isaiah Richardson (Queensland, Australia) made two of three 3-point shots and both his free-throw shots for eight points.

Alassane Seck (Dakar, Sengal) scored six points and had a team-high five rebounds.

The Indians lost the rebound battle 36-24.

MCC shot 50.9 percent from the field for the game, and made six of 16 3-point shots.

NWKT was 34.3 percent from the floor and made three of 16 shots from beyond the 3-point line.

The Indians committed 16 turnovers to 12 for the Mavericks.

Miles Gibson led all scorers with 20 points Chris Freeman 18.

The Indians were whistled for 37 fouls with five each for Richardson, Cunningham and Kafani Williams (Pembroke, N.H.).

With the loss, Northwest Kansas Technical College falls to 15-9.

MCC improves to 16-8 on the year and travels east for the weekend with a Saturday game at Columbus against Central Community College and on to Beatrice Sunday to play Southeast Community College.
