Rotary Sour-R-Bowl benefit set for downtown McCook Friday

Wednesday, January 24, 2018

McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook Rotary Club, in cooperation with 13 participating organizations, will be holding their third annual Soup-R-Bowl lunch on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Organizations have volunteered to prepare a pot of soup to be served to the public in exchange for a free will donation of cash or food products for the McCook Food Pantry.

According to Rotary President Steven Rasmusen, the event is designed to not only raise funds for the Pantry, but to also encourage residents to spend some time downtown on the bricks and visit with organization leaders. In addition, a fairly fierce competition has developed between organizations for the best soup.

Serving soup at the Keystone Business Center are McCook Gazette (beef stew), MCC Business & Community Education (loaded baked potato), Farm Bureau Financial Services (buffalo white chicken chili), Community Hospital (green chili), High Plains Radio (green bean dumpling), and McCook Chamber of Commerce (green chili). The following businesses will serve soup at their business locations: Horizon Bank (Bumpa’s chicken noodle), The Sports Shoppe (Cowbell’s autumn soup), Lincoln Federal Savings (super-duper taco soup), Accents Etc (gluten-free chicken vegetable), McCook National Bank (Todd’s orange & white chili), Acme Printing & Design (beer cheese), and Longnecker Jewelry (international chili).

Everyone is invited to come down to the bricks on Friday and enjoy tasting a variety of soups and vote on their favorites in the “somewhat friendly” competition. A donation at one soup location will allow tasters to try all of the soups.
