Sundae May Fritz

McCOOK, Neb. — Sundae May Fritz of McCook passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family. She was 75 years old.

Sundae was born on Jan. 12, 1943, on the family farm near Redington, Neb., to parents, Arthur William and Viva LaVerne (Feather) Mues. As a child, Sundae attended school at Bayard. She later moved to Minatare where she graduated from high school with the class of 1962.

After she graduated, Sundae moved to Cambridge to live with her aunt and uncle. It was then that she met and would later marry Martin Laverne Fritz. On Jan. 12, 1964, they were married at St. John’s Ash Creek Lutheran Church, rural McCook. They made their home on a farm south of Indianola. Sundae was a busy mother to four children as well as an integral part of the farming operation.

Sundae was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, Mid-Week School, and helped quilt. She was also a member of an extension club and card club.

Sundae and Martin enjoyed square dancing in their younger years. She also liked to work in her garden and flowers, bird watching, and solving cross-word puzzles. She enjoyed professional football especially the Oakland Raiders. Her greatest delight came from spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Art and Viva Mues; her husband, Martin Fritz on Sept. 15, 2010; her son, Dennis Fritz; son-in-law, Kendall Moon; and brothers, Joe, Jeffrey, Jerry and Jim Mues.

Survivors include her daughters, Marla and husband, Shane Messersmith of McCook and Tracy Moon of North Platte; son, Todd Fritz and wife, Donna of North Platte; one brother, Jack Mues (Paula) of Bayard, Neb.; three sisters, Becky Blue of Bridgeport, Neb., Patricia Fulton of Newman, Calif., and Maxine (Merlin “Con”) Steffensmeier of Bridgeport; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given to Community Hospital Home Health and Hospice.

Visitation is today until 7 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. to greet friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, 11 a.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ash Creek rural McCook, with Pastor Justin Hildebrand officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Bartley, Neb., at 1:30 p.m.

Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook is entrusted with arrangements.
