William “Bill” Stock

McCOOK, Neb. — William St. Clair Stock was born the day before Christmas in 1923, near Wauneta, Neb. “Bill,” as he was known, was the second youngest of eight children born to Chester C. and Bessie B. (Ough) Stock. He grew up and attended school in the Wauneta area, graduating from Wauneta High School.

Bill married Bernice Elaine Johnson on Nov. 16, 1943, in Trenton, Neb. The couple raised their family near Wauneta, and shared a happy marriage until her untimely death in 1986. Bill moved to McCook, Neb., a few years later after retiring from farming and ranching. He later married Ruby Zimbelman and they continued to live in McCook until present.

Bill was a successful farmer and rancher, farming land south of Wauneta. He was very proud of his military service, enlisting in August of 1944. He trained at Camp Hood, Texas, and served in the European Theatre during WWII and was involved in the Rhineland engagement. He received the Victory Medal, the European Middle Eastern Occupation Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Bill attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was discharged in 1946, after serving 23 months. He was very active in the Wauneta area serving as a Boy Scout Master, a member of the Wauneta American Legion, and held the office of president of both the Wauneta School Board and JC’S.

His involvement extended to the surrounding area a well, serving on several boards including the Chase County Fair, the ASCS and the Southwest Public Power District. Bill was always there to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors.

Bill passed away early Saturday morning, Jan. 20, 2018, at Hillcrest Nursing Home of McCook. He was 94 years of age.

Survivors Include his wife, Ruby, of McCook; daughter, Karen Satchell of Green Valley, Ariz., son, Bill Stock of Green Valley, daughter: Karla Morford of McCook, and daughter, Debra Stock, of Kearney, Neb.; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Lois Lane of Dix, Neb.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernice; three brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be Thursday morning, Jan. 25, 2018, 10:30 a.m. (MT) at United Methodist Church of Wauneta with Pastor Elias Munkindia and Johnny Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta.

Visitation is Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 24, 2018, 2 to 6 p.m. (MT) at Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta.

A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church of Wauneta.
