Bronco girls back on winning track

WAUNETA, Neb. — Wauneta-Palisade’s girls took charge with a 22-point third quarter and downed Arapahoe, 51-38, Friday evening.

The Broncos regained their footing following back-to-back losses against Chase County and powerful Hyannis.

Coach Matt Cox’s team improved to 6-3 and will visit Hitchcock County in Trenton Friday evening.

No individual stats were obtained from W-P.

Senior Alayna Whipple’s 18 points paced 1-9 Arapahoe while sophomore Teri Hilker added 11. Both Wariors hit a pair of three-point shots.

Junior Mariah Watson cleaned the glass for 10 rebounds.

Wolves second

HAYES CENTER, Neb. — An 8-1 Hyannis team jumped in front, 14-5, through one quarter and eventually downed Maywood-Hayes Center 56-40 during the MH-C Tournament title game Friday night.

Senior Rebel Sjeklocha’s 11 points paced the 8-2 Wolves, who hit just 14 of 55 field goals overall.

Sophomores Jaycee Lapp (seven) and Avery Johnson (six) teamed to score another 13.

Longhorns loseSINDEY, Neb. — The Chase County girls fell one basket short, 46-44, against Gering on Friday and then dropped a Saturday finale to Class B Beatrice, 51-42, Saturday which finished their Cabela’s Holiday Shootout.

Senior Ragan Nickless tallied 17 points vs. Gering to follow her 20 points in a win over Cheyenne South, Wyo. Sophomore Mallie McNair netted nine points.
