Southwest girls shut down Arapahoe
ARAPAHOE, Neb. ó Stellar Southwest defense allowed no field goals before halftime and junior Caitlyn Smithís 21 points sparked a 51-23 victory over Arapahoe Friday evening.
The Roughriders raised their record to 3-4 as eight different players hit baskets.
Southwest shot ahead 15-1 through one quarter and took a 26-2 lead into halftime.
Sophomore Jadyn Brooks added eight points and junior Nicole Dewey netted another seven.
Senior Ashley Kragelund contributed six points followed by seniors Destiny Ebert (three), Bailee Springer (two), juniors Cara Oltmer (two) and Suzanne Roggenkamp (two).
It was quite a contrast to Thursday evening, when Arapahoe shut out 6-0 Wilcox-Hildreth through the opening quarter.
The Warriors (1-6) did hit nine second-half shots en route to 21 points.
Sophomore Terri Hilkerís six topped the attack and junor Mariah Watson added five.
Junior Joslyn North hit two shots for four points. Others scoring for the home team were senior Alayna Whipple (three points), sophomores Hannah Utterback (three) and Adrienne North (two).
Utterback drilled her only three-point attempt.
Whipple and Watson both pulled down four rebounds.
