NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- The McCook Bison unified bowling team finished their regular season at Saturday’s Lexbluffs Tournament held at Wild Bill’s Wings and Bowling in North Platte.

As a tuneup for next week’s district meet, Saturday’s tournament had teams bowl eight baker games. All district meets will use the same format.

Highlighting the Bison was Team 1’s JJ Myers, Kirstin Collicott and Eric Graff. The McCook trio placed fifth with a total pinfall of 837.

Kassadi Lemburg, TJ Renner and Isaac Hegwood had a total pinfall of 665 for McCook’s Team 2.

McCook’s Team 3 of Paul Minary, Mason Michaelis, Alexis Carney and Skyla Henning had a total pinfall of 639.

McCook head coach Lynne Kinne said she was very pleased with her team’s performances and said she has seen a lot of progress since the beginning of the season.

“I’m so proud of all my bowlers and the growth they have shown throughout the season.”

Perhaps the best moment from Saturday’s tournament came from another Bison bowler.

Brittany Carney, a regular in the McCook lineup, agreed to bowl with Scottsbluff’s Team 2, which needed an athlete. Carney’s participation allowed Scottsbluff to field a second team at Saturday’s tournament.

“Brittany showed great sportsmanship and unselfishness,” Kinne said. “This truly displayed the greatness of unified sports and the idea of inclusivity.”

With the regular season now at a close, McCook will gear up for the District 8 Tournament, which will be held at Valley Bowl in Scottsbluff on Monday, Nov. 27. The tournament is set to begin at 12 p.m. CST.

While McCook has been able to field multiple teams at every regular season event this season, the Bison will only be allowed one team of five players for district play. This year’s McCook district team will be JJ Myers, Mason Sides, Kirstin Collicott, Kassadi Lemburg and Eric Graff.

Schools in the District 8 Tournament include Alliance, Gordon-Rushville, McCook, North Platte, Scottsbluff and South Platte.

Fellow Gazette school Cambridge will be at the District 7 Tournament, which will be played at the Super Bowl Fun Center in Grand Island on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 11 a.m. CST.

District opponents for the Trojans include Central Valley, Grand Island Senior High, High Plains Community, Lexington, Grand Island Northwest and York.
