Trenton plans benefit for family of accident victim

TRENTON, Neb. — The Trenton community plans a benefit Saturday to help the family of Kacey Carlson, the mother of five who died after a one-vehicle rollover accident Nov. 12.

The soup supper benefit begins at 6 p.m., in the TCDC Building.

Lanny Carlson said in the Thursday edition of the Hitchcock County News that his two youngest sons, Trevor, 11, and Tyson, 6, ran for help a mile away from the accident scene about eight miles southeast of Trenton on County Road 370. Nine-year-old Madysen stayed with 15-year-old Terry as he woke up before heading toward the house herself, according to Lanny.

The Hitchcock County Sheriff’s Department investigation indicates that the 2004 Mercury Mountaineer driven by Kacey left the roadway and rolled.

Lanny credits his youngest sons’ actions with “very well” having saved the life of his daughter, 13-year-old Mackenzie.

The News reports that Kacey, Mackenzie and Terry were injured and transported to Community Hospital in McCook. Kacey and Mackenzie were transferred to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney and Mackenzie was then taken on to the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Terry spent the night in Community Hospital and was released.

Kacey, 32 years old, died at the Kearney hospital Monday, and shared the gift of life with others as an organ donor.

Lanny’s brother, Chancy, told the News that Mackenzie is expected to have surgery on her jaw today, but that full recovery could take up to a year.
