Swedes end road for Longhorns

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — A pair of familiar McCook Bison foes will play for the C1-11 subdistrict title after Gothenburg knocked out Chase County in Monday’s semifinal round.

The Longhorns (17-14 final scored) one impressive 25-11 victory following a 25-18 setback.

However, the talented Swedes (22-11) won a 25-23 thriller before taking that fourth and final set 25-18.

Southwest Conference member Gothenburg now meets 23-10 Ogallala to decide the C1-11 title tonight. The Indians eliminated Cozad to finish Monday’s action.

McCook defeated Ogallala and Gothenburg during its school record-setting 22-10 season.

Coach Jodi Schuller’s league champ Longhorns had won seven straight until three final losses to McCook, Minden and Gothenburg.

The Longhorns had won their league tournament on Oct. 21. No other details were obtained from the playoff match.
