ARNOLD, Neb. -- No. 3 South Loup broke away to defeat No. 14 Dundy County-Stratton 48-22 Thursday in Arnold.

The state-rated Bobcats found themselves in a close contest throughout the first half. DCS and South Loup were tied 14-14 in the second quarter.

South Loup pushed its lead to 36-14 before a Tiger touchdown and conversion made it 36-22 with 11:52 left in regulation. That would be the final time DCS threatened.

Bobcat quarterback Jack Rush accounted for 321 yards, including 294 on the ground, and six of South Loup’s seven touchdowns. Blake Schwartz added 122 yards and a score for the unbeaten Bobcats.

Official game statistics for DCS (4-5 record) were not obtained at the time of press.

With the win, South Loup (9-0) advances to play No. 11 Elm Creek in the second round next week. The Buffaloes upset No. 6 Burwell, the defending Class D1 state champion, 14-12.
