OGALLALA, Neb. -- Sir Isaac Newton’s third law of motion states: ‘For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.’

Who knew the English scientist foresaw Tuesday’s big win at Ogallala?

Following the Lady Bison’s heartbreaking, five-set loss at Hastings High last Thursday, McCook responded with a big win over perennial volleyball power Ogallala 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20) Tuesday night in Ogallala.

Like Newton’s accomplishments, Lady Bison head coach Dennis Troester’s coaching resume has certainly earned him knighthood and the title of ‘Sir’ next to his name. He was pleased with what he saw from his team Tuesday.

“We played very well,” he said. “The girls did an excellent job of hitting serving zones. Team serves were 96-percent, which was a complete turnaround from last week (at Hastings High).”

Last Thursday’s loss saw McCook commit 14 service errors. On Tuesday, that statistic was four.

The Lady Bison also saw a stronger performance at the net. McCook had 9.5 blocks Tuesday, compared to just two at Hastings High. Jaceea Hanson had a team-high five blocks to lead the category.

“Defensive digging and blocking were key factors in the match,” Troester commented.

Leading the McCook attack was Riley Sis, who had a team-high 18 kills. Bailey Honn and Hanson both chipped in 11 terminations, while Jaden Bryant added seven.

Holli Thomas and Kassidy Michaelis were team leaders in assists. Thomas had 23, while Michaelis registered 10.

“A big key to the game was we were able to keep pressure on them throughout the match.”

Up next for McCook (1-1 record) will be a visit to Holdrege (1-3) on Thursday.
