Bison boys second, girls fourth at Lexington Invite

LEXINGTON, Neb. -- The McCook boys continued their strong start to 2017 with a second-place finish at Tuesday’s Lexington Invite at the Lakeside Country Club.

The Bison had five runners finish in the top 13 to help them score 39 team points.

Riley Mai was McCook’s top runner with a time of 17:25.65. That was good enough for silver in the boys’ race.

Steven Hinze took fifth-place with a run of 17:53.14, while Isaac Hegwood (eighth place, time of 18:29.85) also finished in the top 10.

Bison sophomores Eric Graff (11th, 18:45.45) and T.J. Renner (13th, 18:52.71) featured in the top-15. Rounding out top-25 McCook performances were J.J. Meyers (19th) and Josh Huff (22nd).

As strong as McCook was Tuesday, Lexington was a little better. The Minutemen had four of the race’s top-six finishers to score 23 points and the team title.

Alexis Hernandez won the race with a time of 17:09.51. His teammates, Damian Ramirez and Yanni Vasquez finished third and fourth, respectively.

Finishing a distant third was Adams Central with a score of 86. Broken Bow and Wood River rounded out the top five.

Arapahoe’s Isaac Goshert was among top area performers with a 16th-place finish and a time of 18:56.83. He helped Arapahoe to a team finish of eighth place.

Alma-Southern Valley was led by Ivan Varela’s 19:36.32 (21st place) and Billie Paine’s 19:56.07 (24th). The Saints took sixth as a team with 190 points.

Jake O’Dea was Southwest’s top runner with a time of 20:35.62 and 41st-place finish. As a team, the Roughriders finished 11th with 289 points.

In the girls’ race, McCook’s Elsi Rodewald and Arapahoe’s Adrienne Einspahr put in top-10 performances.

Rodewald ran a time of 22:07.05 to finish ninth, while Einspahr was close behind at 22:12.88 for 10th overall.

As a team, McCook finished fourth with 77 points. In addition to Rodewald, the top Lady Bison runners were freshmen Jorlynn Chuancey (12th, 22:49.89), Megan Hodgson (18th, 23:55.52), Kerrigan Burns (25th, 25:14.92) and Lexi Hauxwell (29th, 25:39.17).

Other Lady Bison runners were Mackenzie Larson (30th), Victoria Drullinger (36th) and Brittany Riemann (49th).

Kylea Stritt put in Southwest’s top time with a 26:16.63 and 32nd-place finish. Her teammates, Kailee Miller and Ashley Bennett, took 44th and 45th, respectively.

Alma-Southern Valley’s top run came from Teagan White, who finished 38th with a time of 28:10.85.
