Eileen Lomax Luhmann

May 14, 1922 – Aug. 27, 2017

CALIFORNIA - Beulah Eileen Lomax, born near Wilsonville, Neb. on May 14, 1922, to Lewis and Inez (Sears) Lomax, departed this life on Aug. 27, 2017, in Whittier, Calif. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Wilsonville High School in 1939. After being awarded a Regents Scholarship to the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Neb., she attended there for two years.

Eileen married Gilbert A. Luhmann from Holbrook, Neb. on Aug. 10, 1941. They farmed for one year until Gilbert joined the Army Air Force as a navigator during World War II. Eileen shared many adventures as she followed him from various training posts in the states.

While Gilbert was stationed in England, she taught high school in Naponee, Neb., where her brother Dale served as superintendent of schools after the war ended, she and Gilbert settled in southern Calif. and Gilbert completed his engineering degree while Eileen worked for various companies as an executive secretary and accountant. She continued this work when Gilbert was recalled to serve for another year in the Korean conflict and continued working when he returned from the service to resume his career.

Due to Gilbert’s flying skills, they invested in their own airplane and were able to continue their love of travel after Korea and the birth of their son Lyndon Ray. They cultivated friendships with people from behind the iron curtain, traveled all over the United States, Alaska, parts of Canada and Mexico. She continued as a volunteer bookkeeper for charitable organizations after her retirement. Eileen loved to entertain and generously shared her culinary skills with family and friends from all over the world. Her Christmas cookies were a special treat for many acquaintances.

She was preceded in death by her son, husband, parents, four brothers, Dale Everett, Clarence Waymon, and Marion; and one sister, Bonnie June.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews; grand nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; acquaintances and friends. Services will be Saturday, Sept. 16, at 10 a.m., White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 E. Philadelphia St., Whittier, Calif., 90601.
