Opal Agnes Dolan

Aug. 31, 1926 - Aug. 15, 2017

CAMBRIDGE, Neb. — Opal Agnes Dolan, age 90, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at the Cambridge Manor in Cambridge.

Opal was born on Aug. 31, 1926, to Peter T. and Mary C. (Giespert) Schneider in Hayes County, Nebraska. She was proud of the fact that she grew up in a sod house. She graduated from Hayes Center High School in 1944.

On Nov. 1, 1947, she married Daniel Dolan in McCook. To this union one son was born.

Opal was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society, the American Legion and the Grand Generation.

Opal had a gift of hospitality. In their early years on the farm, nieces and nephews enjoyed spending time there and in later years, it was the grandkids. Anyone who stopped by was always welcome to a good home-cooked meal. She took care of her parents and in-laws in their last years and watched grandkids often. She was a hard worker, side by side with her husband raising hogs, taking care of a big garden and canning. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting and reading.

Opal is survived by son, Paul Dolan and wife, Debbie of Indianola; sister-in-law, Irene Schneider; six grandchildren, Lisa (Spencer) Neely, William Dolan, Theresa Dolan, Krista Dolan, Katie (Jon) Hofer and Magan Dolan; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Daniel in August 2002; brothers, Victor Schneider and wife, Betty and Howard Schneider; and sister, Delyla and husband, Lawrence Weskamp.

Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017, from 6 to 7 p.m. at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church with Rosary to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church with Father Greg Pawloski as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Indianola.
