OBERLIN, Kan. — Ralph W. Shaw, 86, of Oberlin, died Sunday (July 16, 2017), at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan.

He was born Oct. 31, 1930, in Decatur County, Kan., to Guy and Mary (Cathcart) Shaw. He grew up on the family farm west of Oberlin. He graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1948 and from Fort Hays State University with a degree in mathematics.

He married Violet Spiers on Aug. 12, 1950, in Oberlin. He was a former mathematics and science teacher, farmed, and was a retired insurance agent at Great Northwest Insurance Agency in Oberlin.

He was a member of the Oberlin United Methodist Church and Mountain Slope Lodge No. 186 AF and AM.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard Shaw; sister, Bonnie Olson; and grandson, Isaac Shaw.

Survivors include his wife, Violet, of Oberlin; children, Joel (Tami) Shaw of Oberlin; daughter-in-law, Anna Shaw of Oberlin; sister, Elna Fortin of Brighton, Colo.; brothers, Joe Shaw (Mary) of Durango, Colo., and Garry Shaw (Jean) of Longmont, Colo.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin.

Services are Wednesday, July 19, 2017, 10 a.m. at the Oberlin Uinited Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Interment is at the Oberlin Cemetery.
