Gloria Jean (Ruby) Kersey

Feb. 23, 1947 - July 11, 2017

WHITEWOOD, S.D. — Gloria Jean (Ruby) Kersey passed away at her home in Whitewood on July 11, 2017, at the age of 70. She fought a courageous two and half year battle with lung cancer.

Gloria was preceded in death by the loss of her closest friend and mother, Elaine; her father, Douglas; and her stepfather, Fred Seybold. She also lost a close sibling, her brother, Stuart, one year ago.

Gloria is survived by her devoted husband, Dennis, of 41 years; her oldest daughter, Stephanie Orth (Shayne); her son, Brian Kersey (Nicole); and her youngest daughter, Debb Whitt. She had six grandchildren who were very special to her.

Gloria was born in McCook, Neb. She grew up on a small family farm in Palisade, Neb., graduated from Palisade High, and briefly attended McCook Community College. In 2013, she fulfilled her dream of retiring/moving to the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Gloria was an animal lover and talented artist. She loved camping with her husband, Dennis, and traveling to see family.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday July 14, 2017, at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish.  A gathering will take place at Stephanie and Shayne’s home in Spearfish following the burial service.
