Hitchcock Co. Elementary helping to promote severe weather awareness

CULBERTSON, Neb. Fourth Graders at Hitchcock Co. Elementary, with the help of fifth grade teacher Lori Smith, recently participated in the Nebraska Severe Weather Awareness Poster Contest.

Local winners received a certificate congratulating them and packages of colored pencils for their efforts.

Winners were: first place, Kaiah Johnson; Jacob Theissen, second place; and Liberty Pianalto, third place.

The contest, sponsored by the Nebraska Association of Emergency Management, the National Weather Service and the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency, is part of the annual Severe Weather Awareness Week effort produced by Emergency Management Directors/Coordinators across Nebraska.

The poster contest is open to all fourth grade students in Nebraska public, private and home schools. Teachers are encouraged to have students participate while teaching them about the hazards of severe weather in Nebraska.
