Longhorn relay wins state race

OMAHA, Neb. — Chase County and Dundy County-Stratton took the top spots to start Class C girls track-field competition this morning.

The opening race ignited this strong state as Chase County won a state championship while those Tigers took second.

Freshman Mallie McNair joined seniors Destiny Reinke, Kadyn Milner and Taylin McNair winning with a time of 9:33.52.

They managed to outrace the DC-S team of freshman Sable Lambley, seniors Madison Lambley, Aubrey Frederick and freshman Jessie Freeland who took second at 9:48.22.

No other scores had been obtained before today’s deadline. The Longhorns totaled 10 points with DC-S scoring eight ahead of Crofton (six), Tri County (five) and Gibbon (four).

Chase County’s boys had scored three points as their 3200-relay of senior Bryson Fisher, sophomore Scott Wheeler, juniors Francisco Barrientos-Rodriguez and Caleb Weiss placed sixth with a time of 8:31.58.
