Grasshoppers romp over Lugnuts

FELLING FIELD — Five runs batted in from Gabe Roberts helped lead the Roberts Farms Grasshoppers past the Golden Plains Realty Lugnuts 16-5 on Tuesday.

Roberts drove in runs on a triple in the first, a single in the second, and a single in the third.

The Grasshoppers took an early lead in the first inning behind Reid Loop’s RBI single and a Roberts triple with the bases loaded.

The Golden Plains Realty Lugnuts did string together a thre-run rally in the third inning. Patience at the plate paid off for the Lugnuts as both Daniel Kelley and Ethan Pospisil walked with the bases loaded.

Loop earned the win for the Roberts Farms Grasshoppers. He went one and one-third innings, allowing zero runs, zero hits, striking out three, and walking zero.

Four relievers helped the Grasshoppers close out the victory.

The Roberts Farms Grasshoppers had six hits in the game with Roberts and Loop each collecting multiple hits.

The Grasshoppers stole 13 bases during the game with four players swiping more than one. Evan Merrihew led the way with four.

Pospisil led Golden Plains Realty Lugnuts with two runs batted in.

The win positions the Grasshoppers at the top of the Minors Division standings with a 2-0 record.

The Lugnuts fall to 0-1 on the season with Tuesday’s defeat.
