Springtime on the ranch

The curious bull checks out lunch time at “bison acres” near Red Willow Lake north of McCook Saturday afternoon. Darrell Meister’s and Randy Woitaszewski’s herd of American bison has grown by one this spring, and Darrell has moved the herd to a new pasture along Highway 83, making them easy to view from the highway. Although they may appear docile, these bison are not pets and the seven-strand barbed-wire fence is there as much to keep viewers out as it is to keep the bison in.
