McCOOK, Neb. — McCook High School announced another new Bison coach for 2017-18 in a press release this morning.

Comments are from activities director Darin Nichols:

“McCook High School is very excited to announce Joel Arterburn as the new head girls coach coach for the McCook Bison.

Mr. Arterburn has been coaching freshmen basketball and seventh grade football in McCook during the past five seasons.

Prior to coming to McCook Joel coached basketball for three years at Wahoo High School in Wahoo, Nebraska.

Joel is currently the sixthgrade social studies teacher at McCook Junior High.

Mr. Arterburn has been an avid golfer his whole life and has learned many things from former golf coach Ron Coleman while working summers at the golf course and playing whenever he could.

Joel has a passion for golf and the rich tradition of McCook High Golf Teams and looks forward to continuing that great tradition and encouraging students from McCook to give golf a try.”

Arterburn will replace Scott Leisy, who helped coach McCook High’s girls to a Class B No. 2 team finish last fall.

Leisy will be leaving McCook to pursue opportunities following the 2016-17 school year.

He also coached the Bison girls’ basketball team. Former Ashland-Greenwood and Davenport head coach Amy Scheil was recently hired to direct girls’ hoops while also assiting with the softball team.
