FFA awards

Collin Swedberg, left, of Wallace, the 2016-17 Nebraska State FFA vice president, asks McCook Senior High FFA members to examine the difference between “recognition” and “appreciation.” “If you’re motivated by reward and recognition, it works like coffee. It’s good for about 30 minutes and then you need a nap,” Swedberg said. He likened appreciation to a cattle dog enjoying his job. “If we enjoy what we do … if we have a purpose and a drive … if we appreciate the hard work involved, we don’t need recognition for what we do,” he said. MHS and FFA senior Reilly Fichtner presented Larry Pollmann, above, of rural McCook with the “Honorary Chapter Member” award. Honorary memberships are presented to recognize anyone who helps to advance FFA and agricultural education. FFA member Ashlyn Hoyt said that Pollmann goes the extra mile for the MHS FFA chapter. She explained that Pollmann “never leaves a task half-done,” that he is the first to shake the hands of freshmen and tell them “Call me if you need something,” and the first to shake their hands again as seniors and say, “Job well done.” More from the annual FFA banquet will appear in a future Gazette.
