ALMA — Southern Valley sliced 14 strokes off its back nine but took second behind the host Alma golf team at Thursday’s Alma Invitational.

The Eagles shot 344 (179-165) with Alma hanging on to win by five strokes (164-175-339).

Trent Krejdl’s 84 led the Eagles and earned seventh place overall as he shot 44 and 40.

Teammates Trent McKenzie (40-47-87) and Spencer Brown (43-45-88) joined him in the tourney’s top 15.

Cambridge sophomore Preston Carbaugh also delivered a great torunament. He shot 38 on the front nine and 41 to place second overall at 79.

However, no golfer kept place with Franklin Flyer Ryan Weiss on Tuesday.

Weiss carded a par-72, firing 35 and then 37 to finish his excellent day.

Carbaugh’s effort helped Cambridge place sixth among the 10 teams competing at 417.

No other Trojan individual was able to crack the tournament top 10.

A lot of these same area teams will be competing in Thursday’s Southwest Invitational.

Southwest, Medicine Valley and Dundy County-Stratton are among other teams scheduled to compete.
