Industrial hemp film, discussion April 11

Tuesday, April 4, 2017

McCOOK, Neb. — “Bringing it Home,” a documentary film promoting industrial hemp, will be shown at a Tuesday, April 11, at the Bieroc Cafe, 312 Norris Ave. in McCook.

A discussion of cannabis legislation for Nebraska will be from 5 to 7 p.m., and the film, by Linda Booker and Blair Johnson, will be shown at 6 p.m.

Nebraska Hemp Co. will have a display of hemp products

Proponents say industrial hemp can help create jobs, fuel, food, better health, housing, paper, textiles, auto parts and livestock feed.

The Kansas House passed an industrial hemp bill March 27, but it still has to clear the State Senate and governor’s desk.

The bill is supported by some economic development entities and the Kansas Farm Bureau. The Kansas Department of Agriculture supports only the research component of the bill, and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation opposes it.

A Nebraska industrial hemp bill is unlikely to make it out of committee this year.
