McCOOK, Neb. — Mary Irene Shirkey, originally of Broken Bow, Neb., and Arun Robert Peters, originally of New Delhi, India, were united in marriage Feb. 18, 2017, at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook, Neb., with the Rev. Jeff Kelley officiating.

Parents of the bride are Bill Jr. and Myrtle Shirkey of Broken Bow. Parents of the bridegroom are Malcolm and Prabha Peters of New Delhi.

Matron of honor was Chandra Kisker of McCook.

The best man was Ryan Matthews of Akron, Colo. Ushers were Mark Shirkey, brother of the bride, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Keith Messinger of McCook.

The flower girls were Kourtney Hawk of Chadron, Neb., and Elizabeth Shirkey of Bellevue, Neb., both nieces of the bride. The ring bearer was Paxton Messinger of McCook.

Candle lighters were Katrina Shirkey and Kaitlyn Shirkey, both of Bellevue, Neb., and nieces of the bride.

Guestbook and program attendants were Hunter Hawk of Chadron and Cole Headley of Bellevue, both nephews of the bride.

The organist was Evie Caldwell of McCook. The pianist/soloist was Kathy Latta of McCook, who played and sang “Better Place” by Rachel Platten.

Following the wedding, a reception was at the McCook Armed Forces Reserve Center.

Reception coordinators were church host families, the Dirk and Sandra Gray family and the Tom and Janie Bredvick family, all of McCook.

Reception host couples were Greg and Pam Wolford, Bill and Sandy Graves, and Art and Nita Skinner, all of McCook.

The bride graduated from Broken Bow High School in 2001; from Chadron State College in 2005; and in 2014, earned a Master’s of education (educational administration) degree from Chadron State College. She works at Southwest Public Schools in Indianola and Bartley as an elementary special education teacher and is the district special education director.

The bridegroom graduated from Basel Mission English Medium High School in Dharwar, India, in 2002; from C.S.I. College of Commerce in Dharwar, with a bachelor’s in commerce in 2007; Garden City College in Bangalore, India with a master’s in software engineering in 2010; and from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Va., with a Master’s of divinity in 2015. He works at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook as an associate pastor in charge of youth and education.

The couple plans on taking a road trip honeymoon to explore the east coast in summer 2017 and lives in McCook.
