Getting in character

Monday, March 13, 2017

Lexi Hauxwell, from left, Ellisa Kaps, Malcolm Hinze and Olivia Koetter, all eighth graders at McCook Junior High, get in character for roles they play in the upcoming production of “Beauty and the Beast.” Presented by the Southwest Nebraska Community Theatre Association, the classic tale also includes Lanie Overton and Avery McConville of Southwest Elementary and several students from McCook High School. The cast and students have been practicing since the beginning of January, said Dian Trail, learning their lines and choreography. SWNCTA takes an active role in promoting theater arts for kids, Trail said, such as offering scholarships to the Missoula Kids’ Theatre, scheduled in April. “Beauty and the Beast” will be performed again Tuesday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the door or at Hershberger’s Music Storie or Howard Kool Honda, both in McCook.
