Resignations, new hires on agenda for school board
McCOOK, Neb. -- Five resignations and three teaching contracts are on the agenda for the McCook Board of Education, at its regular meeting Monday, 6:30 p.m. at the junior high conference room.
Resignations come from Tim Garcia, McCook Elementary principal, who has accepted a position as a principal in Colorado; Megan Soundy, McCook Elementary, who has accepted a position as principal in her hometown of Hayes Center, Neb., Marlene Meitle, who is retiring as a Title 1 teacher from McCook Elementary; Jeremy Reimers, science teacher at McCook High School, who has accepted a position at Bridgeport, Neb.; and Brooke Teel, Central Elementary, who has accepted another position.
Contracts the board will be asked to approve include one for Craig Dickes, social studies teacher at McCook Junior, as assistant principal for McCook Senior High. There were 39 applicants for the position, according to MHS principal Jeff Gross in the principal reports included in the school board packet.
Other contracts are for two speech/language pathologists, Jennifer Jimenez and Brittany Powers. Both are currently speech/language pathologists with Educational Service Unit 15, with Jimenez at Trenton, Neb. and Powers at McCook.
Under the consent agenda, that can be approved in one motion without discussion unless an item is pulled by a board member, three board policies are up for approval. Policies are concussion awareness; responsibility for the education program designated to the superintendent and the board of education establishing requirements for instructional hours.
In this policy, total instruction hours are established not be less than 400 for kindergarten, 1,032 for grades K-6 and 1,080 for grades 7-12.
