Indian softball bats go cold

LIBERAL, Kan. -- The McCook Community College softball team looked to avenge an early season loss to Seward County, but offensive struggles would doom the Lady Indians.

MCC would drop game 1, 10-2 and game 2, 8-0. The losses drop MCC to 2-10 on the year and 0-3 against Seward County. The Lady Indians will look to 'right-the-ship' against North Platte on March 1 at the Jaycees Sports Complex. Games can be viewed live on Tribe Watch.

The Lady Saints would jump on MCC right out of the gates, taking a 2-0 lead after 1 inning of play, but the Lady Indians would answer in the 3rd; capitalizing on some sloppy defense from SCCC to tie the game at 2.

From there, the Lady Indians wouldn't be able to get anything going at the plate; only getting one more runner on base. Cheyanne Herzog (Ashland, NE) and Alexis Ramirez (Omaha, NE) would pick up the only two hits for MCC, while Kendall Yasui (Winnipeg, MB) would grab the lone RBI in the game.

Taya Thorpe (Malad, ID) took the ball in the circle for the Lady Indians, going the distance (5.2 IP), giving up 10 runs (9 earned) on 14 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 4.

In the nightap, MCC would only be able to get two hits and three total base runners on the night.

Seward County would stay hot from game 1, scoring at least one run in the first three innings to take a 5-0 lead before finish the game in the 5th with a 3-spot.

Alexis Moeaki (Las Vegas, NV) and Jenny Keck (North Platte, NE) would collect the lone hits for MCC. Lexie Holm (Sugar Land, TX) would take the loss in the circle, going 4.2 innings, giving up 8 runs (7 earned), on 11 hits and walking three Lady Saints.

McCook Community College played basketball during the weekend and those results will appear this week.
