Indians win finale of tough softball opening trip

MCCOOK, Neb. -- Freshman Alexis Moeaki's home run and a 6-4 closing win highlighted McCook Community College's tough 1-6 opening softball road trip last weekend.

The Indians blasted ahead 4-2 on Friday against host Western Texas College.

Sophomore catcher Alexis Ramirez started a three-for-three hitting day.

Ramirez, sophomoers Lexi Holm, Katrina Arthen and Angelica Evans drove home McCook runs with early hits.

McCook would go on to outhit Western Texas, 12-9, with Evans and Keck both drilling doubles beside one single apiece.

However, five errors proved costly while helping the home team score in every inning except one. Western Texas rallied for a 7-5 triumph.

The Indians totaled just three hits while dropping a 9-2 Friday finale.

Evans, Moeaki and freshman Cheyanne Herzog singled with Herzog driving in one Indian run.

McCook moved on to El Paso, Texas for Saturday and Sunday doubleheaders.

They dropped a 2-0 contest against Seward County, Kan., even though Holm pitched all seven innings.

Freshman Kendall Yasui doubled for one of McCook's four hits.

McCook next played three against El Paso College and none went beyond five innings.

El Paso dominated the first contest, 11-3, even though Evans doubled, singled, scored two runs and drove home another.

Sophomore Lindsey Fishman from Las Vegas, Nev., singled and drove home one run.

Yasui finished two-for-two.

El Paso didn't snooze on Sunday, scoring 10-2 and 11-1 victories over McCook.

Again, El Paso didn't miss plating at least one run in all six innings.

Moeaki launched the one home run during the 10-2 Sunday opener.

Evans and Holm both smashed two base hits.

Moeaki motored home with both Indian runs.

A nine-run third inning decided El Pason's 11-1 triumph.

Yasui and Moeaki provided the only two Indian hits. Evans drove home Yasui for that one McCook run.

Keck pitched three innings in her second start of this opening trip.

McCook moved on to Las Vegas, N.M. where the Indians beat Luna College 6-0 on Monday.

Evans' three hits powered the attack.Wengren doubled twice and knocked in three runs.

Taya Thorpe doubled, scored once and drove home another.

Moaeki finished her good weekend with two hits and runs scored.

Thorpe also struck out in seven innings to earn the complete-game win.
