McCook women win two

McCook - The McCook Community College Indians extended their win streak to four, by beating NJC 62-50, before falling to Lamar 83-77 to finish off the home stand.

The Lady Indians now sit at 14-10 on the year and 4-5 in Region IX play. MCC currently sits 5th in the Region standings; one game back from Otero and Trinidad of 3rd/4th place and a host spot of the First Round of the Region IX South Tournament. Coach Fernetti's squad will be back in action on Friday when the open a 4-game road trip in Scottsbluff to take on the Region IX leader in Western Nebraska.

Against NJC, both teams struggled to score in the first half, but the Lady Indians used a hot shooting second half to pull away from the Plainswomen, taking the game 62-50 and earning a season split.

MCC would shoot 50% from the field in the second half, while only shooting 37% for the game. A'leah Davis and Kaylea Watson led the way, picking up 17 points each, while Atunuwa Eva added 10 points of her own. Erica Peet came one point and rebound shy of a double-double, finishing the night with 9 points on 9 rebounds. MCC had a very strong showing on the defensive end, collecting 15 steals and forcing 27 NJC turnovers.

Against Lamar, the Lady Indians started strong and would trade punches with the Runnin' Lopes in the first half, holding two different leads, but 11 first half turnovers would helpput MCC in a five point deficit at half, 38-33. Kaylea Watson had a big half, hitting on 3 of her 6 attempts from deep, for 11 points. The Lady Indians would go cold in the second half, only shooting 33% from the field, 1-11 from deep, and was only able to connect on 1-4 attempts from the line. The cold shooting plus 11 more turnovers would allow Lamar to pull away and take the 72-51 victory.Watson was the only player in double digits for MCC with 15 points and added 6 rebounds, while Erica Peet and Colby Cox finished with 8 points.

The Lady Indians will be back at the Peter & Dolores Graff Events Center on February 24th and 25th, when Otero and Trinidad State come to McCook for the last two games in Region IX.
