McCOOK, Neb. -- Howard Leo Dold, age 70, of McCook, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb., from a head injury sustained by a fall at his home.

Howard was born at McCook to parents, Manford and Irene (Timbrel) Dold. He grew up on a farm near Hayes Center where he graduated from Hayes Center High School with the class of 1964. He continued his education at Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis and then at McCook College.

He entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 28, 1969, and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 27, 1971.

He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Aller on May 23, 1990, at Gering, Neb. They made their home in McCook, where Howard worked in engineering for the Nebraska Department of Roads until recently when he retired.

Howard was a member of Nebraska Rifle Association (NRA) and American Legion. He was a collector of many things including guns, pottery, glassware, and miniature farm tractors to name a few. He loved to go antiquing where he would find many of his collections.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Manford and Irene Dold; and brother, Allen Dold.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Dold of McCook; daughter, Kristi and husband, Mark Bruner of Omaha; son, Gary Knappert and wife, Janet of McCook; sister-in-law, Teri Dold of McCook; nine grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special nephew and niece, Doug and Lori Stolz of Burlington, Colo.; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, 11 a.m., at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel with Pastor Clark Bates officiating.

Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at a later time.
