YORK, Neb. -- Edna Elizabeth Dicke, age 91, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at York Heartstone in York.

Edna Elizabeth Adkinson was born on Feb. 22, 1925, in rural Dundy County, Neb., near Parks to Edwin Franklin Adkinson and Viola Pearl (Campbell) Adkinson.

Edna attended several country schools in Dundy county and northern Kansas. She attended high school in Benkelman, graduating in 1942. After graduating, she taught school for five and one half years in rural districts.

Edna was a member of the Pleasant Valley Friends Church north of Benkelman until 1947, giving her heart to the Lord at the age of 12 years.

On Dec. 2, 1947, she was married to Leland William Dicke of rural Palisade, Neb. She and Leland lived on a farm north of Stratton, Neb., until their retirement in 1996 when they moved into Stratton.

In 1954, they joined the Christian Union Church in Stratton after having membership at the Eden Missionary Church south of Wauneta. Edna taught Sunday School for several years.

In September 1956 they adopted a daughter they named Joyce Ann.

Edna enjoyed gardening, raising chickens and helping on the farm. She belonged to the Ladies Missionary Society and the Busy Bee Extension Club. She and Leland enjoyed traveling by car and on bus tours, having taken 20-some bus tours before Leland's death on Feb. 10, 2003.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Leland; sisters, Rena as an infant and Dorothy Smets; two brothers, Melvin and Philip; and a niece Janice, who was like a daughter to her; four sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Helen, Eleanor and Audry; and six brothers-in-law, Louise, Lyle, Warren, Herb, Leonard and Dean.

She leaves to mourn her daughter, Joyce and husband, Jim McDuffee of York; three grandchildren, William of Lincoln, Nicole of Kearney and Dennis of York; two sisters-in-law, Lois Adkinson and Carol Adkinson; special friends, Bonnie Bley, Elaine Bley, Shirley League and Doris Kier; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be given to the Grandview Senior Center, 903 Bailey Street, Stratton, NE 69043 or to the Christian Union Church, 501 Hamilton St, Stratton, NE 69043.

Visitation will be today until 8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at Christian Union Church in Stratton with Kevin Fink officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
