Bison bowlers finish second at districts

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- The McCook Bison ended their inaugural unified bowling season with a second-place finish at Tuesday's District 7 meet in Grand Island.

Members of the Bison district bowling team were Taye Collicott, Isaac Hegwood, Paul Minary, JJ Myers and Mason Sides.

McCook finished runner-up with a score of 678, the 16th-best district score out of 43 schools across the state.

Grand Island Northwest won the District 7 title with an impressive 978, the second-highest district score statewide.

"I was super proud of how well our team competed," said head coach Lynne Kinne. "It was a great season."

Lexington finished third with 642, while Central Valley (574) and Grand Island Senior High (539) rounded out the top five.

Northwest advances to next week's inaugural state bowling meet in Lincoln.

The Vikings will be joined by district winners Alliance (767 district score), Bellevue West (810), Lincoln High (706), Lincoln Southeast (1,042), Millard North (686), Norfolk (756) and North Bend Central (910).

As for McCook, Kinne is eager for what should be another great campaign in 2017.

"I am looking forward to next year," Kinne said. "I'm excited to see how well the sport will grow."
