Building activity near $8 million
McCOOK, Neb. -- Local construction activity appears to have lulled after experiencing an up year in 2015. The City of McCook reported just shy of $8 million in construction activity through the first nine months of 2016, a decrease of more than $4.6 million when compared to prior year.
Commercial remodels shrank to less than $94,000 and represented the largest decrease after reporting more than $3.6 million and $1.1 million in 2015 and 2014, respectively, according to building report information from the city.
"Residential 1&2 Family" projects led the way through the first nine months of the year with more than $3.2 million in local construction activity. The category was up from $987,500 during the same time period last year.
Commercial construction came in second with more than $2.3 million in activity reported through the first nine months of 2016. The category was similarly up from more than $1.5 million during prior year.
The "Other" category ranks third highest so far this year, with more than $844,000 in construction projects. The category includes roofing and deck projects and is down from more than $3.3 million in activity the year prior.
After welcoming some of the first multi-family residential construction activity in several years last year the city has reported no activity in the category this year. In 2015 more than $1.9 million in construction activity was reported in the category through the first nine months, the first of its type since $20,000 was reported in 2010, according to a review of city building reports.
City revenue from fees associated with all construction activity totaled $19,127 during the first nine months of 2016, a decrease from $33,374 the year prior.
