Tigers win home cross country invite

Thursday's champion, Will Kuenne of Chase County, turns the corner at the Benkelman Golf Course.

BENKELMAN, Neb. -- Thanks to four top-six finishes, Dundy County-Stratton ran away from the competition to win its home invite with 14 points.

Chase County finished second with 30 points, while Cambridge's 51, Arapahoe's 65 and Southwest's 103 rounded out the team scores.

Leading the way for the Tigers was Bailey Peckham, who finished second with a time of 18:28. Eli and Gideon Fink took second and third with times of 18:48 and 18:58, respectively. Phillip Boyd took sixth with his 19:18. Those four runners gave the Tigers one of the lowest team scores you can have.

Winning the meet was Will Kuenne of Chase County with a time of 18:20. Kuenne ran out front for an early lead and never relented.

"For Will it wasn't about worrying where you are, but rather can you keep the red line, and he did," said Chase County assistant coach Jonathan Beverly.

Jason Nolting-Farrier of South Platte was the other top-five finisher with a time of 18:59.
