Norma "Jean" Linnemeyer

McCOOK, Neb. --Norma "Jean" Linnemeyer of McCook passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, at Community Hospital. She was 88 years old.

Jean was born on Oct. 10, 1927, at Quick, Neb., in Frontier County to parents, James A. and Louise (Crawford) Loghry. As a young child she lived with her family in a dug-out home. She graduated high school from Curtis School of Agriculture and attended McCook Junior College.

She earned her teaching certificate and taught in area country schools. She was also employed as a secretary at the McCook Air Force Base and at Jack Kid Pharmacy. Later, she opened and ran McCook's first book store, the Book End Book Store.

On March 31, 1946, she was united in marriage to Richard W. "Dick" Linnemeyer at Curtis. They became owners and operators of McCook Floor Covering. She served on the Election Board, volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader and participated in the North Ward PTA. She helped with the raising of her grandchildren, a job she did willingly and lovingly. She was an avid reader, loved to crochet and play bridge.

Preceding her in death were her parents, James and Louise Loghry; her husband, Richard, on Sept. 15, 2016; two daughters, Julie Thomsen and Susan Linnemeyer; nephew, Mike Miller; and brother-in-law, Harold Miller.

Survivors include her daughter, Connie and husband, David Haller, of McCook; son, Rick Linnemeyer of McCook; sister, Doris Miller of Shafter, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Mandy White, Ben Linnemeyer, Kody Linnemeyer, Alexis Thomsen, Tomika Haller, Danielle Linnemeyer, Andrew Linnemeyer, and Kaitlin Haller; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel on Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, with Terry McCorkle. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
