McCook, Neb. -- The 2016 McCook Community College volleybal campaign didn't start the way first-year coach Hayley Kobza would have liked Monday night, with the Indians falling to Cloud County Community College of Kansas in four sets; 21- 25, 25-18, 20-25, and 23-25.

McCook used the excitement from the crowd and the start of a new season to jump out to

an early lead, but Cloud would respond to take a 20-14 lead in set one.

The Indians did not go quietly, fighting off eight match points and going on a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 24-21 before a service error would give the T-Birds the set.

"We need to do the simple things," Kobza told the McCook Gazette Tuesday morning. "Like serving."

Set two was close early, but once McCook broke through with an 8-6 lead it was all Indians from there.

Cloud was never able to put points together and MCC would tie take the set, 25-18, to tie the match.

Sets three and four were eerily the same for the Indians.

Both sets were close back and forth battles, that McCook just wasn't able to come up with the big point to take the sets and the potentially the match.

In set three , McCook was within three points the entire set until a late run by Cloud and in set 4, the Lady Indians had a shot to steal the set when it was all square at 23, but Cloud was able to get the last two points to seal the game.

"We did a lot of good things and easily could have won, but we need to be more consistent." Kobza said. "We need to focus better on the small things, like serving, that killed us today. It's all about having all six girls on the court putting everything they have in it. That's the hardest part about coaching volleyball. I think we have the girls that want to be those types of players. I thought Aijahnae Springs had a solid game, she is a standout player."

McCook will be back in action this weekend, when the Lady Indians travel to North Platte for the Subway Invite. MCC will take on Casper and Colby on Friday; and Eastern Wyoming and NPCC on Saturday.
