KEARNEY, Neb. -- Karron F. McBee, 71, of Kearney, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, at Mount Carmel Home Keens Memorial.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, at Countryside Christian Church. The Rev. Chad Laughrey will officiate. Interment will be in the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home.

Karron was born on Feb. 26, 1945, in McCook, Neb., to Erie G. and Gail C. (Phelps) Matson. She grew up on a farm south of Culbertson and attended country school. In 1963, she graduated from Culbertson High School.

Karron was united in marriage to Steve L. McBee on Dec. 29, 1963, in Culbertson. The couple farmed outside of Culbertson until moving into town in 1969. Steve and Karron moved to Kearney in 1972, where she owned and operated a daycare in her home. She later worked at J.C. Penney as a catalog supervisor for 14 years. Karron then worked as a bookkeeper for Fairbanks International for two years, at which time she reopened her in home daycare.

She was a member of Countryside Christian Church and was a volunteer at the Senior Center. Following retirement, Karron began visiting nursing homes where she would work on crafts, played cards and put puzzles together with residents. Karron also loved camping and cooking.

Survivors include her husband, Steve of Kearney; a daughter, Kristeen K. McBee of Kearney; a granddaughter, Koree K. Barboza and husband Lucas of Grand Island; and a sister, Coraleen K. McNutt and husband Herb of Kearney.

She was preceded by her parents; a daughter, Teresa F. McBee; a sister and brother-in-law, Krin G. and Joe Simeon; and two infant sisters, LaJonta Vae Matson and Sharron Gae Matson.

O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
