Lyle Arnold Pummer

Nov. 14, 1926 -July 28, 2016

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Lyle Arnold Pummer, age 89 of Springfield, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on July 28, 2016. He was born Nov. 14, 1926. He was the oldest son of Adam and Telitha Melissa (Morrow) Pummer.

Lyle attended a country school and Decatur Community High School in Oberlin, Kan. On May 6, 1950, he married Arlene Kiger and they enjoyed more than 66 years together. Lyle enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on December 7, 1951. Lyle served on three different bases in the continental U.S. He served as radar technician on fighter jets in Germany, France, and Africa. After his discharge, he returned to Oberlin, where he was employed as a T.V. technician but soon opened his own business - Lyle's T.V. Service.

On Aug. 28, 1962, three children came to bless this home. (This was Timothy Lyle's fourth birthday!) In 1963, the family moved to Graff, Mo., where they lived for a few years. They later moved back to Oberlin, where he became a partner on Oberlin Service Center and later, sole owner.

In 1992, they sold their home and business and moved to Stockton, Mo., where they worked for the Corps of Engineers for 13 years. They spent several winters at Canyon Lake, Texas, working for the Corps.

After his health began to fail, they moved to Ozark, and later to Springfield. In addition to his wife, Lyle is survived by one son, Timothy Lyle (Janice) Pummer, Springfield; two daughters, Janice Arlene (Terry) Brown, Springfield, and Cecile (Joe) Flegg, Northern Ireland; one sister Twila Baker, Ten Mile, Tenn.; one brother Gene (Nell) Pummer, Wingo, Ky.; two brothers-in-law, Jack Hunt and Franklin Timm; one sister-in-law, Juanita Pummer; 10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Lyle was predeceased by his parents; one son, Ricky Gene Pummer; two sisters, Elaine Timm and Paula Hunt; and one brother, Rev. Frank Pummer; three brothers-in-law, Luther Baker, Merle Pavlicek and Leroy Plante; one step- grandson and one granddaughter, Tara Lee (Huss) Emert.

All of his grandchildren brought him much happiness! Each one was special to him. The last two to join this loving family were especially precious to him, Nicolas Patrick Simmons and Joshua Lyle Huss. He loved his wife and family above all else! He will be greatly missed!

The family had memorial service today, August 1, 2016 at his home in Springfield.
