McCOOK, Neb. -- Dorothy Dean White, age 92, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

Dorothy was born on Sept. 15, 1923, to Roy Leslie Stewart and Hazel Leota (Bymer) on the family farm north of Culbertson, Neb. She was one of 12 siblings raised on the farm.

On Oct. 20, 1944, Dorothy married the love of her life and decorated World War II veteran, Albert E. White, in McCook. The couple met while Albert was stationed at the airbase north of McCook. Following the war, Dorothy and Albert lived in Albert's hometown of Wolfeboro, N.H., before moving back to McCook in 1952. The family made their home here, raising their three daughters: Judy, Brenda and Terri.

In the 1940s, you would find Dorothy working in Hested's Department Store in McCook. From 1965 until she retired, she worked at DeGroff's as a buyer and manager of the women's clothing department. She loved to dance and always enjoyed beautiful flowers. Despite never taking a music lesson, Dorothy could play anything by ear. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting family gatherings in her home. Dorothy and Albert were active members of the First Congregational Church in McCook.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, in 2013; her parents, Roy and Hazel Stewart; brothers, Cecil, Virgil, Donald, Roy and Orville Stewart; and sisters, Beulah Miles and Martha Berns.

Dorothy is survived by her three daughters, Judy (John) Anderson of McCook, Brenda (Michael) O'Neal of Edmonds, Wash., and Terri (Douglas) Colling of Kearney; brothers, Wayne Stewart of McCook; sisters, Joann Gillen, Lorna Trupp and Edna VanFleet, all of McCook; eight grandchildren, Leslie (Jay) Ragojo and children, Aiden, Malia and Isabella, Michelle (Andy) Ray-Parsons, PHD, retired Major Kelly (Tiffany) O'Neal and children, Sean, Spencer and Cami Jo, Brian (Lara) O'Neal and daughters, Madelyn and Emma, Katie (Evan) Figg and children, Jacob and Avery, Eric O'Neal, Christopher (Katie) Colling M.D. and children, Hadley and Henry, and Lisa (Justin) Adkins M.D. and son, Elliot.

Memorial services will be at a later date at the First Congregational Church in McCook.
